The experience begins at the 'Galería/Hostel Mono Rojo', a jungle-surrounded space created by a Mexican artist and guardian of the ancient Mayan city of Becán. As we enjoy a beautiful sunset, our Maya culture specialist will introduce us to the history and essence of the region through a tour of the gallery and its museum. As evening falls, we share a unique moment crafting artisan pizza in the heart of nature, surrounded by the tranquility and sounds of the jungle.
The next morning we head to the Calakmul Archaeological Zone, one of the most important Mayan cities of the Classic period and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The access road crosses over 60 kilometers of protected jungle, where you may spot howler monkeys, toucans, ocellated turkeys and occasionally jaguars roaming free. Once at Calakmul, we explore its imposing structures accompanied by a certified local guide, in one of the most impressive natural settings of the Mayan world.
To close the experience, we visit the Kohunlich Archaeological Zone, famous for its monumental masks and jungle atmosphere. We walk among the sculptural corozo trees and the howls of monkeys that inhabit this part of the low jungle.
